Greece rewards travellers who look beyond the beach chair. On Santorini, a caldera-edge path links whitewashed villages with the volcano’s collapsed rim rarely out of view. In the Peloponnese, quiet farm tracks and forest paths connect ancient sites – Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia – through olive groves that have been worked for centuries. Both are a different kind of Greece than the one most travellers see from a sun lounger.
On Santorini the walking follows the caldera’s edge between whitewashed villages, with blue-domed churches and the Aegean below. In the Peloponnese, quieter farm tracks and forest paths connect Mycenae, Epidaurus and Olympia through centuries-old olive groves. Both are graded easy to moderate.
Greece’s mountainous terrain and island geography make it better suited to walking than cycling. Waybound’s Greece collection currently focuses on walking holidays, with routes chosen for the scenery and history that only travel on foot can properly access.
