Self-guided holidays across Europe

Self-guided walking & cycling holidays, your way

Beautifully planned walking and cycling holidays across Europe, with carefully mapped routes, handpicked accommodation and luggage transfers arranged for you. Travel independently, set your own pace, and enjoy the journey without the planning headache.

Find your way to travel

Four ways to see Europe, none of them rushed

Every Waybound holiday is self-guided, but how you move through a place is entirely up to you.

Walking Holidays

Coastal paths, mountain passes and hill-town lanes, walked hotel to hotel with nothing to carry but a day pack.

Cycling Holidays

Quiet backroads, river valleys and vineyard trails, ridden at whatever pace suits you.

Family-Friendly Routes

Shorter days and gentler terrain, on holidays built so children arrive tired from adventure, not travel.

Multi-Country Tours

Cross borders on foot or by bike, following a single continuous route that links two or three countries in one trip.

Where Waybound travels

Extraordinary places, deliberately chosen

We don’t operate everywhere. Every country below has earned its place, for trails worth walking, roads worth riding, and villages worth the detour.

About Waybound

Creating journeys that inspire independent travel

Waybound was founded by Niall Corcoran and Cecilie Bech Christensen, whose own self-guided trek around Mont Blanc shaped the idea for the company. We believe travel is not simply about reaching a destination. It’s the route, the villages, the food, and the freedom to stop when something catches your attention.

Every route we offer has been personally researched, walked or ridden, and refined, so you get the independence of planning your own trip, without the months of work that usually comes with it.

Why Waybound

Freedom, backed by experience, travelled with confidence

Carefully Researched Routes

Every route is personally walked or ridden and refined before it's offered, not simply licensed from a catalogue.

Flexible Travel Dates

No fixed group departures. Travel when you want to, with whoever you choose to travel with.

Considered Accommodation

Hotels and stays chosen for character and location, not simply for convenience along the route.

Luggage Transfers Included

Your bags move ahead to the next stop, so you walk or ride with only what you need for the day.

Detailed Maps & Route Notes

Clear, tested navigation for every stage, so you can focus on the journey rather than the directions.

Local Destination Knowledge

Built up over years of researching and walking these routes ourselves, not from a brochure.

Plan My Route
How it works

From booking to the trail, in five straightforward steps

Self-guided doesn’t mean unsupported. Here’s exactly what happens between deciding on a trip and setting off on it.

01

Choose your route

Pick a walking or cycling holiday by destination, terrain or pace, or tell us what you’re after and we’ll point you the right way.

02

We plan the details

Accommodation, luggage transfers, route notes and maps are booked and prepared around your dates, not a fixed group departure.

03

Your pack, delivered

Confirmation arrives with everything you need: route notes, maps, accommodation details and a local contact number.

04

Walk or cycle, your pace

Follow the route day by day. Sleep in, take the long way round, stop for the view. Nobody’s waiting on you.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The practical questions we’re asked most before someone books their first self-guided trip.

You travel independently along a route we've researched, tested and mapped in detail, staying at accommodation we've booked in advance, with your luggage transferred between stops for you. There's no guide walking beside you and no group to keep pace with, just clear route notes, maps and a local contact if you need one.

Hand-picked accommodation for every night of your trip, daily luggage transfers, detailed route notes and maps for each stage, and a dedicated local contact for the duration of your holiday. Flights and personal travel insurance are arranged separately.

No. Most Waybound routes are graded easy to moderate and are designed around enjoyment rather than endurance. Each trip lists daily distance and elevation so you can judge the fit, and we're always happy to suggest a route that matches your pace.

Yes. Every holiday runs on dates you choose within the season, not a fixed group departure. Start on a Tuesday, add an extra night in your favourite village, or travel in the shoulder season for quieter trails. The itinerary is built around you.

Leave your main bag at reception each morning and it's collected and delivered to your next hotel while you're on the trail, so you only carry a light day pack. It's arranged for every night of your trip as standard.

Yes. A number of our routes are designed specifically with families in mind, with shorter daily distances, gentler terrain and stops chosen for their appeal to children as much as adults. Look at our Family-Friendly Routes above, or ask us for a recommendation based on your children's ages.

You'll have a dedicated local contact number for the full length of your trip. If a path is closed, transport is disrupted, or plans simply need to change, that's who you call, not a general hold queue.

Start with how you'd rather move, on foot or by bike, then let terrain and pace narrow it down: coastline, mountains, countryside or village-hopping, at an easy, moderate or more active tempo. Still unsure? Get in touch and we'll recommend a route based on what you enjoy.
